HORSE STORIES

The Morgan County Crew

The "Crew" arrived Thursday, August 19, 1999 from Morgan County, WV. The "after" photos were taken less than three months later.

Arabella and Ruby
Before (left) and after (middle and right).

Arabella and Ruby Slippers

Ruby was only 6 days old at the time of the rescue. Since her diet still consists mainly of mom's milk, she is in the best condition of the crew. Arabella did not fare as well. Notice her hips. Her body sacrificed whatever reserves it had for the sake of her foal's development.

The following three foals were found confined to one stall. Their long hooves showed how long it had been since they had been outdoors. No sunshine. No fresh air. No clean grass under their overgrown feet.

Chloe, before and after

Chloe

Approximately four months old (in her "before" photo). Arrived terribly underweight and carring most of her "baby coat," which should have shed out long ago.

Faline, before and after

Faline
A little younger than Chloe and Shalimar, Faline has severely impaired vision due to the effects of nutritional neglect.

Shalimar, before and after

Shalimar
Same approximate age and condition as Chloe.

Everyone at the ERL are happy to announce that all of these wonderful horses have been adopted into happy homes of their own!
