HAPPY NEW YEAR! Welcome to 2012! Check back as new updates are on the way!

December 2011

We'd like to introduce 5 recent arrivals, all of which are spotted saddle horses. These mares and fillies are survivors of a starvation/neglect case. After their seizure they were turned over to the ERL. They came to the shelter on May 15, 2010 in horrible condition. The youngest, Vixen, could barely walk 3 strides before resting, she was full of intestinal parasites and suffering from severe malnutrition and dehydration. On the condition body scale she was rated a 1. The four others were all condition scored 2’s or 3’s. (See the body condition scoring system.) The girls were vetted immediately, de-wormed and started on regular feedings with a high iron vitamin supplement. For nearly a week they passed unbelievable amounts of worms, the most I have seen since the Morgans we rescued in ‘91. Then the blossoming began, and they are all currently doing great. All they need now is that special place to call home!

  • Vixen ---- 1½ yr. old bay filly. She has a very willing and sweet personality. She was never handled until she came to the shelter. Hard to say how big she will get, but should mature to a small horse size.
  • Comet-----2 ½ yr. old bay filly. Super attractive but very shy, she too had never been handled and will need patient training. Great Project horse, nice mover, and will be small horse size.
  • Prancer---3 ½ yr. old Black and White mare. Gorgeous every way you look at her. Super willing and loves people. She will excell at anything.
  • DiDi--- 5 yr. old Bay mare. Not sure of her training history but she is halter trained and super attractive. Mom to Comet.
  • Merileggs---11 yr. old Black and White mare. Super laid back, very easy to work with. She definitely has been trained. Mom to Prancer and Vixen.

Remember… these are walking horses which means they are naturally gaited! See our availables page for other horses who need homes!
