Arabella

Arabella is a grey 1988 Arabian mare. She and Chloe were part of the Morgan County Crew seized in 1999 in West Virginia. Both mares were adopted out together several years later and have been together ever since. In December 2013, both she and Chloe were returned to the ERL when their owners moved out of the country. She is the quiet matriarch with impeccable manners and would make a wonderful, quiet equine companion. Arabella and Chloe are a bonded pair and we would prefer they were adopted out together.

1/3
Black Magic

ER Black Magic (“Magic”) is a black approx. 1993 mare standing around 17hh. She came to ERL in May 2018. The quiet matriarch, she adores human attention and scratchies on her back. She is kind and well-mannered. She would be perfectly suited for a family looking for an elderly equine companion to adore and love on through her golden years. Dayz and Magic are a bonded pair and we would prefer to adopt them out together.

1/2
Bruno

Bruno is a grey 1984 Quarter Horse gelding who came to ERL in December 2013. He is a quiet gentleman and Ivy's doting husband. Bruno stands quietly for all kinds of attention and is always a gentleman to handle. He is a lovely horse with many years of love and fun to offer, but as a senior citizen he has special needs - he requires three meals a day of a soaked complete feed and cannot have hay as he quids, due to the condition of what is left of his teeth. Although he requires a little senior management, Bruno's adoptive family will receive the sweet love and appreciation only a senior equine offers.

1/2
Valiant

ER Valiant (“Val”) is a dun approx. 2001 mare of unknown decent standing around 15.1hh. She was saved from slaughter in October 2017 along with three others. At the time she was very pregnant (10 months along!), sick and fearful of humans. Since her arrival, she has blossomed into a beautiful mare, given birth to a healthy colt (who has already been adopted), made new friends of her own and is building her trust in humans again. She is available for adoption to an experienced home as a companion only.

1/2
William Ebenezer Bubs II

ER William Ebenezer Bubs II (“Willie”) is a bay 1999 Mustang gelding who was saved from slaughter as a three-day old colt, at the time still at the side of his wild mustang mother. He was halter-trained as a young horse, but has spent the past several years untouched. He returned to ERL in 2018 at no fault of his own, and is learning that humans make great cookie-dispensers and give great scratches. With patience and the right handling, he would make someone a special friend. Willie is available for adoption to the right home.

1/4
William R. Branch

William R. Branch ("Billy") is a lovely 2015 Arabian X Quarter Horse gelding currently standing around 15hh, with room to grow. He came to the ERL in November 2016 when it became apparent to Animal Control Officers that his absentee owner could no longer provide proper care. A bright chestnut and a beautiful mover, this fun loving young horse needs a home where his education will be continued. He has completed 45 days of professional training and is now going walk-trot-canter under saddle. This uncomplicated guy needs a wonderful place to grow and learn.

Emergency : We Need Your Help

December 3, 2018

We urgently need your help. One December 3, 2018 the Equine Rescue League along with eight other rescue groups and county animal control officers began the process of removing 43 severely neglected horses and ponies from a large farm. These animals had no food and no water. Dozens of horses were all struggling to eat from the same haybale. They had matted manes and tails, eyes full of fear and no where to go...

Until Culpeper County Animal Control and nine different equine rescue organizations stepped in to provide shelter and sanctuary to these precious animals. If it wasn’t for our combined efforts a herd of this magnitude could not have been saved. But with so many saved comes a HUGE financial strain on all of the rescues involved. Now we are all pushed to the limit with how far our resources can go. Funds and donations are desperately needed. Each animal taken in by a rescue will need a thorough veterinary exam, dental work, multiple dewormings, vaccinations, coggins testing, farrier work, and high-quality feed, hay and bedding...let alone possible emergency medical bills for colic, injury and/or disease.

Please consider donating to the following equine rescue organizations who desperately need your support:

Culpeper County Animal Control - who is providing feed and hay to the horses still on the property waiting to be removed. Mail checks made out to CCVAS to 10144 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, VA 27701. Attn Jamie Bennett. In memo line put donations for rescue horse feed.

Nationwide Clear the Shelters Huge Success at PKF

August 18, 2018

Thank to everyone who participated in ClearTheShelters Day! What a success...both Jimi and Big Red left the farm today for their respective foster families, and we received Adoption Applications on eight others! We are so excited and hopeful that we can place several more in the coming weeks into wonderful adoptive homes. Stay tuned for updates and future adoption alerts!

Thank you, from all of us at ERL, for caring so much about the rescued horses, donkeys, ponies and mules who seek refuge at our shelter. We couldn’t do it without you. We thank you for caring so much, and for helping us help them.

And thank you to NBC Washington for hosting this awesome nationwide campaign!

**BABY ALERT**

June 27, 2018

**BABY ALERT**

We are thrilled to announce the healthy arrival of Cassie’s son, who was born in the wee hours of June 25, 2018. Cassie is doing a terrific job at being a first-and-only-time mom and has taken readily to her new role of protector, guardian and milk-maker. Her beautiful son will be named ER Dawson’s Journey. Stay tuned for the touching story of how he got his name. With beautiful markings and a personality as big as the world, he is going to be loved by many.

We couldn’t be happier for both Cassie and Dawson. We are grateful they both arrived here at Promise Kept Farm where they will continue to thrive until we can place them into wonderful adoptive homes. They are not available for adoption at this time.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VISIT - PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT.

To feed Cassie it costs approximately $10/day. If you would like to donate directly to the care of Cassie and Dawson, please do so in the following ways:
